North Coast Rep A Walk in the Woods

With world tensions escalating, Lee Blessing’s play, A Walk in the Woods, is especially relevant today. In the midst of the Cold War, a U.S. and Soviet arms negotiator agree to meet informally. Their revealing and absorbing conversations, laced with humor, evolve through debate and discord, exploring unexpected and uncharted territory. For those yearning for a more enlightened world, this play gives us much to think about.
Del Mar Racing Season
July 18 – September 3
Location: Del Mar, 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd
San Diego horse racing takes place where the “turf meets the surf” at the Del Mar Racetrack. Fans flock to the track each summer to wager on their favorite horses during the popular, annual Del Mar Thoroughbred Club racing season, mid-July through early-September. Be part of the magic and nostalgia of this long-time horse race tradition dating back to 1937. That was when Bing Crosby greeted the first guests, and Seabiscuit won by a nose in the infamous race in 1938. This season features the nation’s top race horses, trainers and jockeys, and plenty of fun in the sun.
Don’t miss the Del Mar Summer Concert Series. Concerts are free with racetrack admission purchased prior to the last race.
The Flower Fields
March 1 – May 14
Location: Carlsbad, 5704 Paseo del Norte
For over sixty years, Mother Nature has transformed the rolling hills of North San Diego County into one of the most spectacular and coordinated displays of natural color and beauty anywhere in the world. The nearly fifty acres of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers that make up The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch® in Carlsbad, California, are in bloom for approximately six to eight weeks each year – from early March through early May – literally bringing the famous fields back to life. This annual burst of color, which has become part of the area’s local heritage, also is one of nature’s official ways of announcing the arrival of spring here in southern California.
The Flower Fields are an alcohol and tobacco free environment. Smoking and alcoholic beverages are not permitted onsite. No Bicycles, hoverboards or drones are permitted.
North County and San Diego County Events – September 2016 include something for everyone. There’s plenty to see like the Miramar Air Show, a rodeo, a powwow, and music, Greek, and art festivals. There’s plenty to do with runs, bike tours, and swims. And if all that activity leaves you hungry and thirsty, no problem. September offers great food and drink too.
