San Diego Events February Museum Month

Museum Month: Half-Off Admission

San Diego area residents and visitors are in for a special treat in February! Pick up your Museum Month discount pass at over 75 libraries in San Diego County, at participating Macy’s stores or when you stay at a Hilton. Present your pass to receive 50% off the cost of admission at more than 40 San Diego Museum Council (SDMC) member museums. The Museum Month pass is free and can be used throughout the month of February.

Good for Four Guests

Whether you are an art aficionado, history buff, or nature lover, the SDMC has a variety of member organizations that are bound to capture your interest. Take advantage of this annual program to visit both old favorites and new attractions you have never even heard of! Up to four guests (any age) can receive 50% off the cost regular admission when the pass is presented. Please note that although you will get 50% off of your admission, some museums may have other fees for special exhibits or programs. Please check with museums to see if there are limitations.


Mitchell Thorp Run Walk

Mitchell Thorp Foundation 5K Run/Walk & Family Festival

Location: Carlsbad, Poinsettia Park, 6600 Hidden Valley

Come support a child fighting for their tomorrow. All participants receive bibs, t-shirts and finishing medals.

The festival will have patriotic skydiving entertainment, food and a kids’ fun zone. There will also be mini-therapy ponies, dance performances, a dance contest, prizes and more. Art Night Encinitas

Enjoy an evening of visual art as Encinitas civic and local art galleries swing open their doors at Art Night Encinitas. The free event will celebrate the city’s diverse visual art scene at participating locations. Enjoy live music and refreshments at most locations.

Free Shuttle Buses

Catch a ride on one of the shuttle buses which will transport the public to and from all locations. Please park at Encinitas City Hall, the Encinitas Community Center and the Encinitas Library to easily access the shuttle.


Lake Poway Youth Fishing Derby

Annual Lake Poway Youth Fishing Derby

Location: Poway, 14644 Lake Poway Rd

Join the City of Poway for an exciting day of fun and prizes at the FREE Annual Youth Fishing Derby! We’ll have entertainment, games, bounce houses, a free barbecue lunch and more!

The lake will be open only to youth ages 15 and younger from 6:00 AM-12:00 PM. Winners must be present to claim prizes at the awards ceremony. The awards ceremoney will begin at 1:00 PM. Participants must check-in at the registration tables to receive their wristbands before fishing that morning. For more information call (858) 668-4772.

Camping Available

Tent camping is available. Register at Youth Fishing Derby Campout. Cost is $15 per car.

The Cardiff Kook Run 5K, 10K, Kids K and Costume Contest is a celebration of the greatest community in the most amazing town on the map.

Starting Location

The course starts under the world famous “Encinitas” sign on historic HWY 101 in beautiful Encinitas, California. This scenic loop passes by the famous “Cardiff Kook” statue, rises above some of the most popular surf breaks in the world and heads down to Cardiff State Beach. There is something special about running along the Pacific Ocean with only wind, waves and friends.

Voices of Central America

Two exceptional voices in one concert. Alternate first prize winner of the 2018 international New York Lyric Opera Competition, Camila Lima, from Argentina. Camila has “a voice of exceptional beauty.” Xavier Prado, a native of Chile, starred as Don Quixote in the world premiere of the new opera Dulcinea XL. The lyric tenor has sung with Opera San Jose, Sarasota Opera and Opera Southwest. They will perform opera arias and duets from Turandot, Romeo and Juliet, Die Fledermaus and others.


San Diego Events February 5K Paw Walk

5K Paw Walk in the Garden

Location: Encinitas, San Diego Botanic Garden, 300 Quail Gardens Dr

The San Diego Botanic Garden is teaming up with the Rancho Coastal Humane Society for our eighth annual 5K Paw Walk in the Garden. Both organizations will benefit from this great event. Dogs and their friends will follow a scenic route through the 37-acre garden.

One Day a Year

There will be pet products, food, dog treats and lots of great information for dog lovers. Come join the dogs and puppies. It’s the one day of the year your furry friends are allowed in the Garden.


Tidepooling Adventure San Diego Events

Tidepooling Adventure with Birch Aquarium

Visit a local tide pool. You’ll learn how these amazing habitats and their inhabitants truly survive between a rock and a hard place.

November through March is the optimal season for tidepooling. Minus tides reveal wider beaches and tide pools teeming with life. During those months, you can sign up for a Tidepooling Adventure where our trained naturalists will show you how to tread lightly and help you discover the wonderful world of tide pools. Ages 2+. Ages 2-13 must be accompanied by a paid adult.

Advanced Registration Required

Pre-purchase is required. Birch Aquarium Members: $15, Public: $18. Tidepooling Adventures do not meet at Birch Aquarium.


International Guitar Night

Each year, International Guitar Night’s founder Brian Gore invites a new cast of guitar luminaries from around the world for special concert tours of North America highlighting the diversity of the acoustic guitar.

This year Brian has put together his most eclectic lineup yet. Guest host Mike Dawes and his incredible two-hand contemporary style is joined by Cenk Erdogan and his intriguing, exotic style and engaging on-stage personality. Also joining him is electrifying jazz virtuoso Olli Soikkeli from Finland and Hawaiian Slack Key master Jim Kimo West. Cost: $35 – $45.

Members at the President’s Circle and above are invited at 5:00pm for the VIP hour. Cost is $10. Members are free.
