The Flower Fields

The Flower FieldsFor over sixty years, Mother Nature has transformed the rolling hills of north San Diego County into one of the most spectacular and coordinated displays of natural color and beauty anywhere in the world. The nearly fifty acres of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers that make up The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch® in Carlsbad, California, are in bloom for approximately six to eight weeks each year – from early March through early May – literally bringing the famous fields back to life. This annual burst of color, which has become part of the area’s local heritage, also is one of nature’s official ways of announcing the arrival of spring here in southern California.

  • Prices: Adults: $16.00 Seniors 60+: $14.00 Children 3-10 yrs.: $8.00 Children 2 yrs. & under: Free
  • Season Passes: Adults: $35.00 Seniors 60+: $30.00 Children 3-10 yrs.: $18.00

The Flower Fields are an alcohol and tobacco free environment. Smoking and alcoholic beverages are not permitted onsite. No Bicycles, hoverboards or drones are permitted.

The Mickey Cafagna Memorial Golf Classic was established to honor Mickey Cafagna, former Mayor of Poway. He was one of the most loved and respected elected officials in the city’s history, and distinguished himself by his thoughtful leadership and enthusiastic support of numerous nonprofit organizations.

In keeping with Mickey’s charitable spirit, a contribution will be made to the local chapter of Soroptimist International, a global volunteer organization working to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment.

Now in its 33rd year, the Spring Home/Garden Show returns to Del Mar Fairgrounds for a three-day extravaganza of inspiring real "Garden Masters" landscapes (created exclusively for the Show), hands-on demonstrations, hundreds of home-improvement products and services exhibitors, educational seminars, plant sales, and face-to-face consultations with top experts—all with the convenience of one-stop shopping for everything pertaining to home and garden, inside and outside.

The show focuses on San Diego-area experts, services, products, and businesses. Visitors find everything they need to save time and money improving, refreshing, or remodeling their home and outdoor surroundings—from the latest in appliances to garden lighting, from fencing to security systems, from baths to sunrooms.


Finish Chelsea's Run 5KFinish Chelsea’s Run 5K

Please join us for the 8th Annual Finish Chelsea’s Run in partnership with the Girl Scouts of San Diego and in honor of Chelsea King. The event will take place in Balboa Park where Chelsea loved to visit and where she practiced with the San Diego Youth Symphony. The event will feature a competitive 5K race and fun run/walk, family festival, children’s activities, team competition, entertainment and refreshments.

This annual run/walk is now the primary fundraiser for the Chelsea’s Light Foundation Sunflower Scholarship Fund, providing scholarships for San Diego County college-bound teens who have embraced characteristics that embodied Chelsea’s academic prowess and service-over-self ethic.

We have joined forces with Girl Scouts San Diego, an organization that shares our values and has a long history of creating youth leaders. This partnership strengthens our common vision of recognizing and supporting young people who will make the world a better place. By combining forces, we anticipate growing the run/walk, leading to an even greater ability to protect children and provide scholarships for youth.

Lace up your hiking boots, air up your bike tires, saddle up your horses and join the city in celebrating the 27th annual San Marcos Trails Day on Saturday, March 3 from 9 am to 1 pm.

Hike Options: An easy, two-mile hike will visit the Discovery Lake and Discovery Creek trails. A more challenging, seven-mile hike with more than 1000 feet of elevation gain will be offered to Double Peak Park.

Hike & Bike Meeting Location: Lakeview Park at 650 Foxhall Drive

Equestrian Meeting Location: Ridgeline Trail at 102 San Elijo Road

An adult must accompany all minors. Sturdy walking shoes are recommended; bring water, sunscreen and trail snacks. Dogs must be on a maximum 6-foot leash at all times. The hike is subject to cancellation in the event of rain.

Location: San Diego, Seaport Village

A Busker is a street performer. Known for their unusual and comedic acts in Boston’s Faneuil Hall or standing statue-like, painted in gold on San Francisco’s Pier 39, these artists perform for tips in public venues across the globe.

San Diego’s Seaport Village hosts the only Busker Festival in Southern California. We bring professionals from across the country to perform their bizarre talents from sword swallowing to knife throwing to pogo stick tricks and juggling on unicycles. Throughout the two-day festival, some of the nation’s top performers fill the bay front village drawing visitors to shop, dine and enjoy an entire day of one-of-a-kind entertainment.

Free entry. Tips will be accepted by performers.

Location: Del Mar Fairgrounds, 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd

Over 300 Koi will be on display in competitions, ranging in size from 6 inches to 3 feet long. Learn how to build your own Koi pond and waterfall, turning your backyard into a tropical paradise.

The show will feature vendors selling Koi art, Koi T-Shirts, Koi fish of all sizes, ponds and equipment, including solar power for Koi ponds.

Admission to the Annual Koi Show is free. Hours: 9am to 4pm on Saturday March 3rd; 9am to 2pm on Sunday March 4th. Parking at the Del Mar Fairgrounds is $14.00.

The two-day, outdoor CRSSD music fest returns to Waterfront Park in San Diego on March 3 and 4. This 21+ event features almost 40 artists on three stages, full craft beer, a mixology program, as well as assorted dining options from San Diego’s finest local restaurants.

With a fast OCEANFRONT course perfect for both first-timers and elite athletes, the Encinitas Half Marathon is 13.1 miles of unforgettable fun through America’s most quintessential surf town! 100 percent of the net proceeds are donated to ocean conservation projects.

Racers get a super soft tech tee and huge finisher’s medal, and breakfast featuring organic muffin, TruMoo chocolate milk, bananas, boxed water, Barney Butter and Mexican hot chocolate in a souvenir race mug. The race is professionally timed with $9,600 in prize money. There is course support and funky entertainment, pacing groups and a gear check. Racers also get seven miles of breathtaking ocean views from Highway 101!

The San Diego Latino Film Festival will take place March 15-25, 2018 at the AMC 18 Fashion Valley theaters in Mission Valley. The festival will occupy five screens for eleven days and will present over 160 films from Latin America, the United States, and Spain.

This year’s celebrations will include tributes to filmmakers and actors, a Virtual Reality Lounge and the 25th Anniversary Awards Ceremony Gala in addition to over 160 films from Latin America, the United States, and Spain, Film Talks, celebrity appearances, live concerts and performances at the Sonido Latino stage, Sabor Latino – Food, Beer & Wine Fest, art exhibits, and parties.

Join us to celebrate the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation’s 8th Annual Fun Run from one of two starting points around our lagoon. This year’s Leprechaun Dash & Bash raises friends, funds and awareness about the Agua Hedionda Lagoon. Enjoy a Tip Top Meats lunch at the Discovery Center with shuttle transportation back to your starting point. There will also be a World Water Day Festival, from 9am to 12pm.

The 5K/10K fun run and walk includes lunch from Tip Top Meats, a t-shirt, swab bag, bib, live music, beer garden and carnival games.

Registration and start location for the 5K is at the dead-end of Garfield Avenue, Carlsbad just north of the entrance to Hubbs Sea Bass Hatchery. Registration and start location for the 10K is at 5780 and 5790 Fleet Street, Carlsbad.

Don’t miss a challenging mountain bike race featuring varied terrain, elevation and panoramic views aboard our Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton open to Marines and civilians ages 6 and Up. There are 15 or 25 mile options, 600 feet of elevation and varied terrain, as well as one mile kids’ ride.

T-shirt and bib pickup opens at 7:00 AM. First race begins at 8:05 AM.

It’s March planting madness at our Spring Planting Jubilee & Tomato Sale! This event is a plant lover’s dream with a wide variety of herbs, spring plants, bromeliads, garden art and implements available. Diane’s Herbs will be offering an extravaganza with all new locally–sourced and grown summer garden vegetables. The sale will feature a wide variety of tomatoes, vegetables, and herbs. Garden experts will be on hand to answer questions and provide helpful advice on spring plantings and caring for your entire garden.

Yummy food will be available from Two for the Road food truck, featuring their famous lobster rolls and the Feel Good Coffee Cart. Musical entertainment will be provided by Bob Ballentine and friends. Educational workshops will be offered throughout both days. Cost is free with paid admission or membership.


Adobe Home TourAdobe Home Tour

Location: Escondido, multiple locations

On Sunday, March 18, 2018 from 10:30 am to 4 pm you will be able to visit five stunning adobe homes built between the 1951 and 1980. They feature some of the most interesting and innovative adobe architecture of the time.

Anyone interested in home design, green construction methods or water-wise landscaping will be able to see firsthand the special features and design of these homes, and be able to talk to homeowners who maintain their homes with an eye to preservation.

The Adobe Home Tour benefits the Escondido History Center. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online. Please wear comfortable shoes. These properties have uneven walkways and steps. They are not wheelchair accessible.

The ninth annual Kia Classic LPGA tournament returns to its home at the Park Hyatt Aviara Golf Club in Carlsbad, California from March 19-25, 2018.

The Kia Classic features a 144-player field competing for a purse of $1.8 million. The field features 2017 Kia Classic Champion Mirim Lee and crowd favorites Lydia Ko, Paula Creamer, Stacy Lewis, Michelle Wie and Lexi Thompson.

Tournament week will feature a qualifier, practice rounds on Monday and Tuesday, a Wednesday Pro-Am, and four competitive rounds of play from Thursday through Sunday.

The Race for Autism is our region’s largest annual race that directly supports children with autism and their families in San Diego, and to date has funded more than 600 community program and classrooms. Our mission is to help in the development, expansion and support of autism programs and services that improve the outcomes and opportunities for children and young adults with autism.

The race features a 5K run or walk and a one mile SUPERHERO Family Fun Walk. There are also children’s activities, music, prizes, refreshments and an educational resource fair.

You’ll be amazed and inspired by the simplicity with which Cesar’s Way can bring harmony and balance into your and your dogs’ lives. Ticket cost is $35 to $90.

It’s all about the kids! The City of Encinitas presents its annual Spring Egg Hunt. Adding to the fun in addition to the 20,000 eggs, this year we’ve got two live shows from Hullabaloo on-stage at 10:30 and 11:15, presented with the support of our event sponsors.

We invite you to pack a picnic and make a day of it and enjoy Encinitas Community Park. Please note, there will not be any food or drink available for purchase at the event. Please bring your own basket or bag for eggs.

Carlsbad’s largest egg hunt features the Egg Scramble activity where kids race to collect candy-filled eggs among several other fun activities, including face painting, crafts, soak the bunny, cookie decorating, fun zones, and more.

This event also highlights the Carlsbad Parks & Recreation summer camps with demonstrations and activities that children can participate in. Wrist bands and activity cards are required for some of the activities and can be purchased pre-sale or at the event. Egg Scramble requires a $5 activity card. Fun Zone Wristbands are also $5.

Vista’s 2018 Annual Easter Egg Hunt is sponsored by Pride of Vista Lions Club. This event is free.
