Through a range of mediums — from painting, photography, sculpture, mixed media, digital and more — these works take the viewer on a provocative journey of wonder and imagination.

Feel snow between your fingers while sledding down the snow hill. Smell roasting marshmallows as you devour delicious s’mores. Experience the wind in your hair skating around the synthetic ice rink, and peruse a variety of vendors and their sensational products. Lights will twinkle, as music sets the tone and laughter fills the air. The Winter Festival brings to life all of the charm and entertainment of a cold-mountain town, set right in Poway. Bring one or bring all! There’s something for everyone!

The 27th edition of the Carlsbad Marathon & Half Marathon sponsored by Tri-City Medical Center since 2010 is scheduled for Sunday, January 14, 2017.

The 26.2 and 13.1-mile out-and-back courses begin at The Shoppes at Carlsbad and pass by the Buena Vista Lagoon in the early miles, setting the event’s naturalistic tone. The course and surroundings soon pick up the beat as participants make their way through spectator-packed Carlsbad Village, a quaint but popular mix of restaurants, shops and hotels. Mile three exposes stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, providing an inspiring sight and gorgeous backdrop as rolling hills carry runners and walkers past sandy beaches and rolling surf. In addition to the marathon and half marathon, there is also a 5K run.

Live bands at every mile, enthusiastic volunteers and thousands of spectators are sure to keep participants motivated throughout both courses, offering encouragement all the way to the finish. Once crossing the finish line, participants are presented with a dazzling finisher’s medal, Mylar blanket and Nom Nom food bag before entering a celebratory festival that includes live music, refreshments and a beer garden for those 21 and older.

LEGOLAND® California is host to a special, 1-mile fun run for kids of all ages and abilities. Before the doors open to the public, they’re opened for us to enjoy the sights and sounds of LEGOLAND®! Participants can run, walk, skip or stroll, or even be pushed in a stroller or carried on a back as they wind through the park and back out to the finish line. Each finisher is presented with a shiny finisher’s medal and treated to light refreshments and family-friendly entertainment. The event concludes at 10 a.m. with the opening of LEGOLAND® and SEA LIFE™ Aquarium where registered participants ages 3 to 12 can enter the park for free and moms and dads can enter for 50 percent off admission. This is the 66th year a PGA TOUR event has been held in San Diego, beginning with the San Diego Open in 1952. The Farmers Insurance Open was honored with two “Best Of” awards at the PGA TOUR’s annual Tournament Meetings last week. The Farmers Insurance Open earned the Best Onsite Staging award during the 2017 tournament at Torrey Pines Golf Course, while Danny Waite, Century Club Senior Partnerships Representative, was named Salesperson of the Year by the PGA TOUR. 2018 also marks the 51st time the event is being held at Torrey Pines Golf Course and the eighth year of Farmers Insurance sponsorship of the tournament.

Visit a local tide pool to learn how these amazing habitats and their inhabitants truly survive between a rock and a hard place.

The optimal season for tidepooling is November – March when minus tides reveal wider beaches and tide pools teeming with life. During those months, you can sign up for a Tidepooling Adventure where our trained naturalists will show you how to tread lightly during your visit and help you discover the wonderful world of tide pools. Ages 2+. Under 15 must be accompanied by a paid adult.

Pre-purchase is required. Birch Aquarium Members: $13, Public: $16. Tidepooling Adventures do not meet at Birch Aquarium.
