There are so many outdoor activities — concerts, movies, star gazing, sailing, surfing, horse racing, car shows, even a street fair for dogs! If you’re looking to beat the heat, no worries. There’s plenty to do indoors too!

San Diego horse racing takes place where the “turf meets the surf” at the Del Mar Racetrack. Fans flock to the track each summer to wager on their favorite horses during the popular, annual Del Mar Thoroughbred Club racing season, mid-July – early-September. Be part of the magic and nostalgia of this long-time horse race tradition dating back to 1937 when Bing Crosby greeted the first guests, and Seabiscuit won by a nose in the infamous race in 1938. This season features the nation’s top race horses, trainers and jockeys, and plenty of fun in the sun.

Don’t miss the Del Mar Summer Concert Series. Concerts are free with racetrack admission purchased prior to the last race.

Svetozar (Toza) and Ruth Radakovich created some of the most exquisite, unique, and recognizable pieces of mid century American jewelry. Their designs have left a lasting impression on the modern design and studio jewelry movement.

Radakovich jewelry is exceptionally rare, whereas many studio jewelers created a design and produced hundreds of examples, the Radakoviches were known for creating unique, one-of-a-kind pieces which took inordinate amounts of time to perfect and complete. This exhibition is a narrative of their interwoven personal and professional lives—a long journey across continents and wars during which they found ways to speak words of love to each other through their art.

The Julian Starfest is an annual star party and astronomy exhibition held on new moon weekend each August in the dark skies of Julian, amongst the grape vines and apple orchards of the Menghini Winery.

Anyone can enjoy the Julian StarFest by participating in the free public star party on Saturday, August 6, 2016. Arrive in Julian between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. and you can enter the StarFest grounds (1150 Julian Orchards Ln, Julian, CA 92036) for free. Take a star tour of the heavens using the many telescopes set up in the viewing area. Experts will be on hand to answer questions about what you’re looking at and about the telescopes.

Parking is available nearby and we suggest you bring a red light flashlight to guide yourself to the observing area. If you don’t have a red light flashlight, red film will be provided to cover a white light flashlight.

If you wish to take part in the drawing at 5:00 p.m., you must arrive before 5:00 p.m. and pay regular admission prices.

The Warped Tour is a traveling rock festival that has toured the United States annually each summer since 1995. It is the largest traveling music festival in the United States, and the longest-running touring music festival in North America. It brings together diverse artists, extreme sports, a chance to meet the artists and supports non-profit organizations.

For over 30 years, the City of Carlsbad Cultural Arts Office has presented live music events throughout the city. When summer rolls around in Carlsbad, everyone gears up for TGIF Concerts in the Parks! The 2016 season runs Friday nights from June 24 through Aug. 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. (all fields open at 4 p.m.) and features great music, food and a chance to dance the night away with friends and neighbors in a beautiful outdoor setting.

This year’s band lineup offers a music genre for everyone, from country to rock, cover bands to spicy Latin and world grooves. Concerts are free and open to the public and move across the city, from Stagecoach to Alga Norte, Poinsettia and Calavera Hills community parks. A free shuttle service is available at most concert locations, as onsite parking is limited.

The music at TGIF is just the beginning. A variety of food vendors are onsite at the events, or you can bring your own feast from home. Family Open Studios is back with free, hands-on art making activities for all ages. And of course, there will be plenty of chances to enter the Opportunity Drawing from the Carlsbad Friends of the Arts. There are prize packages each night, all to support future arts and cultural events in Carlsbad.

The Oceanside Yacht Club (OYC) is hosting the 14th annual Charity Regatta to benefit The Elizabeth Hospice on Saturday, August 6 and Sunday August 7, 2016 at OYC located at 1950 Harbor Drive North, Oceanside. Entry Fee to race in the two-day Regatta is $50 and daily Post-Race Parties are open to the public free of charge beginning at 3:00pm Saturday and 2:00pm Sunday.

The two-day event commences with sailboat races starting at noon on August 6 and August 7. Food and drink are available for purchase both days starting at 4:00pm along with a silent auction and raffle taking place both days. The Grand Prize Raffle Drawing includes a 7-day Holland America Cruise for 2 to the Caribbean, Mexico or Canada/New England or Alaska. The cruise drawing is $20 per ticket. The public can join the fun “on the water” and board a luxury powerboat for a $100 per person donation to The Elizabeth Hospice. Enjoy live music by local bands.

This year is the 27th Annual Rod Run and Vista is proud to once again host a collection of classic, hot rod and specialty vehicles along with their owners. Without the owners, these cars would just be a memory. Some owners and their cars are attending for the 27th year in a row; now that’s impressive!

The Vista Rod Run on Sunday, August 7, 2016, is more than a car show. It’s not just a dusting off of the old Ford and parking it for spectators to view. The Rod Run is pride of ownership, bragging rights and friendly competition amongst serious collectors. Owners prepare for this day long in advance, some driving from other states just to showcase their baby and hang out with those who share the same passion for classic and hot rod cars, detailed to perfection.

The BB&JHF Orchestra consists of musical talents playing authentic arrangements of these famous big bands. CD’s will be available for purchase the day of the concert.

This event will be held in the Gazebo Lawn and chairs will be provided.

Oceanside International Film FestivalOceanside International Film Festival

Held every August, Oceanside International Film Festival officially kicks off a season of various film festivals, which are conducted annually in San Diego County and usually continue through the fall. Established in 2009, OIFF is an opportunity for independent filmmakers to have their work screened and judged. It also gives film buffs a jump-start chance for viewing local and international films at a place in Southern California known for its rich history, beautiful beaches, and artistic freedom.

This year the organizers from Oceanside Cultural Arts Foundation have put together a program of 60 films. North San Diego County’s largest film festival will show films from the U.S., Spain, Greece, Singapore, Ireland, Turkey, United Kingdom, Malaysia, Canada, Denmark, Switzerland, and Australia.

This roof-raising musical tribute will transport audiences to the glory days of the Harlem Renaissance with a versatile cast that struts, strums, and sings the songs that Waller made famous during his storied career including, “Honeysuckle Rose,” “I’m Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter,” “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love,” and dozens more.

This is really three events taking place on the south side of the Oceanside pier, the Oceanside Longboard Annual Surf Contest, the Guy Takayama Noseriding and Open Pro, and the Oceanside Beach Festival. The 32nd annual event features coalition surf teams from all over California. The event will include a beach festival in the amphitheater with vendors selling food and merchandise. There will also be live music and a beer garden in the bandshell all weekend long. The event is free to spectators and shoppers. Sponsored by The Oceanside Longboard Surfing Club (OLSC).

Cardiff-by-the-Sea is ready to celebrate man’s best friend! Set in this beautiful beach community, this annual one-day street fair for dogs and dog lovers is set for Saturday, August 13, from 9:30am-6pm on Newcastle Ave, Aberdeen Drive and Liverpool Drive in Cardiff-by-the-Sea. The event is hosted by Cardiff 101 Main Street and is expected to draw 10,000 four-legged friends, their fans and family members.

Dog Days of Summer is San Diego County’s largest dog-centric event! Beginning at 10 am watch or enter in 4 different dog contests including Cutest Puppy, Dog/Owner Look-A-Like, Best Looking Big Dog and Best Looking Small Dog. After the contest, local musical talents will be showcased in conjunction with the Lost Abbey beer garden with Second Cousins at 1 pm and Trouble in the Wind at 3 pm. Beachsport.org announces the 40th Annual World Bodysurfing Championships to be held adjacent to the Oceanside Pier August 20-21, 2016. Approximately 350-400 bodysurfers from around the world compete in their respective age divisions for trophies and prizes. The Men and Women’s Grand Champions will be crowned on Sunday afternoon, the final day.
